Church and Covid-19

Page Title
Kia Ora, Malo e lelei Church Whanau,

Yesterday the Government announced that from Wednesday 23rd September at midnight the maximum number for indoor gatherings, including church services will be 100 and today, the Diocese confirmed, that services can commence in our churches from this Sunday 27th September 2020.

This is the news we have been eagerly waiting for and we are excited that we will now be able to return to gathering for worship on Sundays in a physical format and even though there will be some differences in our service format while we are at Alert Level 2, this change in restrictions allows us to be physically present in our worship together.

The changes that will be in place for the rest of Level 2, will ensure we comply with the physical distancing, contact tracing and extra venue cleaning requirements.

We will be meeting together in the Church Hall on Sunday at 10AM. Doors will open at 9:45AM before the service.

Church Services at updated Alert Level 2

Our Sunday service will be simplified and will not include sung worship.
The Diocese recommendation is that we do not include sung worship until we can be sure that this is safe. So for now, there is no singing at church. This will be reviewed as we received further information from the Diocese.

We ask you to pre-register for Sunday services using our contact tracing form
To help us with contact tracing we ask that everyone who is planning to join us on Sunday pre-registers using our contact tracing form on our website at www.stmatthias.org.nz . There is a maximum capacity of 48 in the hall with social distancing. People are encouraged to wear masks.

Children’s church, youth on Sundays and morning tea will not be restarting until Alert level 1. Home groups will not be meeting physically at this time.

During Alert Level 2 our physical office will remain closed and will reopen at Alert Level 1.

Staying connected
We are the church, we love to fellowship and we need to stay connected. Whilst we can now meet physically, there are some people who won’t be able to do this and others who will be missing our after church catch ups over morning tea. We want to encourage you to continue to reach out to one through calling one another, messaging, texting and yes, we can visit one another, but lets make sure that we keep a safe distance and that we call first.

We look forward to seeing you on Sunday.

We are here for you.
